It was a selfie she thought was worth nearly $43 million.
In late August, Katrina Bookman hit what appeared to be a massive jackpot on a slot machine at Resorts World Casino in Jamaica, Queens. The screen showed winnings of $42,949,672, and she snapped an excited photo of herself with the display. Had it been valid, it would have been the largest slot machine jackpot in US history.

“I can’t even describe the feeling. It’s like my whole body just got numb,” Bookman told CNN affiliate WABC.
But when she returned to the casino the next day to confirm the size of her jackpot, her excitement quickly vanished.
“I said, ‘So what did I win?’ He said, ‘You didn’t win nothing,’” she recounted to WABC.
According to the New York State Gaming Commission, the machine had malfunctioned. Like all of the casino’s machines, it carried a disclaimer: “Malfunctions void all pays and plays.”
Instead of millions, the casino offered Bookman a complimentary steak dinner.
